2577 08/30/2011 Jack Rogers Harrison Thomasville Mr. Jack Rogers Harrison, age 68, of Ernest Snider Road, Lexington, died August 30, 2011, at Thomasville Medical Center. He was born on January 2, 1943, in Davidson County, to the late Willard Harrison and Louise Hunt Harrison. He was a woodworker with Commercial Carving and was of the Baptist faith. Five weeks prior to his death, he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior. He was married to Bonnie Hedrick Harrison, who survives of the home. He is also survived by two daughters, Candi Harrison and Jackie Harrison, both of Lexington; one step-son, Tommy Everhart of Lexington; two sisters, Polly Hulin and husband Walter of Lexington, and Wyona “Cricket” Harrison of Thomasville; four grandchildren, Felisha, Cassie, Dillon, and Amanda Harrison; and one great-grandson, Laken Harrison. Services for Mr. Harrison will be held on Friday, September 2, 2011, at 4:00 p.m. at J. C. Green and Sons Chapel in Thomasville, with Rev. Billy Joe Yates and Rev. Brian Workman officiating. The family will receive friends from 3-4 p.m., prior to the service. Interment will follow in Community Baptist Church cemetery in Lexington. 2578 09-01-2011 Charles "Cobby" Edward Beck Thomasville Mr. Charles “Cobby” Edward Beck, 83, a resident of 403 Fisher Ferry Street, died Thursday morning, September 1, 2011 in the Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington. He was born September 26, 1927 in Davidson County, a son of the late William Odell Beck and Mary Cloniger Beck. He was a retired employee with Parkdale Mills, Inc., with fifty years of service. He attended Bethel United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Donnie Wayne Beck and a sister, Lucille Cross. On October 3, 1952 he was married to Patsy “Pat” Barnes, who survives of the home. Also surviving are two sons, Charles E. Beck, Jr. and wife Linda and Ronnie L. Beck and wife Gwen, both of Thomasville; a sister, Pat Miller of Sophia; brothers, William Odell Beck, Jr. and wife Martha and Delbert Beck and wife Judy, both of Thomasville; Larry Beck and wife Carol of Elon College and Mack Beck of Asheboro; Six Grandchildren and Eight Great-Grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 4, 2011 at 3 P.M. in Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Arthur Holland and Rev. Bob Briggs officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Sunday from 1:30 until the service hour. 2579 09/01/2011 William "Bill" Lee Horne, Jr. Thomasville Mr. William “Bill” Lee Horne, Jr., age 82, of New London, NC, died on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at High Point Regional Hospital. He was born on March 30, 1929, in Cherokee County, NC, a son of the late William Lee Horne, Sr. and Elizabeth Neal Horne. He retired in 1991 from Henredon Furniture with 27 years of service and he also had 14 years of service with Drexel Heritage. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Heidleberg United Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon and on the Board of Trustees. He was an avid golfer and was a “loving” father. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Janice Leigh Horne; one son, William Lee Horne, III; one brother and three sisters. On December 23, 1950, he married Peggy Alexander Horne, who survives of the home. Also surviving are two sons, Thomas Max Horne and wife Lisa of High Point, and Joseph Alan Horne of Atlanta; two granddaughters, Casey Lea Horne of Greenville, NC, and Leslie Brooke Horne of High Point; and his best friend, Spudd. Services will be held on Sunday, September 4, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. in J. C. Green and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with Rev. Jamie Fonville officiating. 2580 09/04/2011 Evelyn Slate Harrington Thomasville Mrs. Evelyn Delores Slate Harrington, 81, a resident 138 Lakeview Circle, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, September 4, 2011 at High Point Regional Hospital. She was born on November 1, 1929 in Davidson County to Charles Alexander Slate and Annie Catherine Basinger Slate. She was a former employee of Henredon Furniture and was a homemaker. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, where she served on The Flowers and Food Committee, was a nursery worker, and a member of The Betty Hutchens Sunday School Class. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Cashion, two brothers, Charles and Donald Slate and her step-father, Robert Pittman. On November 16, 1963, she married Donald Ray Harrington, who survives of the home; also surviving are two daughters, Anne Smith and husband Darren of Wallburg, and Nicole Caylor and husband Shannon of Thomasville; step-son, Don Harrington of Pilot Mountain; sister, Joann Mitchell of Thomasville; and five grandchildren, Dylan Smith, Connor Smith, Lindsay Caylor, Seth Caylor, and Lillyanne Caylor. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Arthur Holland officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Harrington will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service. 2581 09/07/2011 Holland J. Raper Winston-Salem Mr. Holland J. Raper, 92 of High Point Road passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at Hospice Home at High Point. Born in Davidson County on April 2, 1919 to Charlie and Hattie Idol Raper, he had made this area his home for his entire life. He was a retired diesel mechanic last working for Carolina Garage and Mack Trucks and was of the Baptist faith. He was a World War Two US Army veteran. He enjoyed his hobbies of hunting and fishing, reading and completing puzzle books and NASCAR. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Ina Blanche Smith and Etta Mae Skeen and brothers, Davis and Paul Raper. On December 21, 1946 he married the former Mildred Reece who also preceded him in death on March 19, 2011. Surviving is his daughter, Debbie Raper of the home and his son, Steve Raper of High Point, sister, Bessie Young of Jamestown, grandsons, Jordan Raper and Shane Raper and his wife Kim, several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be on Friday at 1:00 PM at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Roy Cantrell officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday from 11:30 AM until 12:30 PM at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home in Wallburg, 10301 N. NC Highway 109. The family requests that memorials be directed to Hospice Home at High Point, 1803 Westchester Dr. High Point, NC 27262 in Mr. Raper’s memory.
