Angelle Constance Barnes Welborn Obituary

Mrs. Angelle Constance Barnes Welborn was transported to her Heavenly home on January 14, 2021.  She was 100 years on this earth.  She grew up in Taylorsville, NC born on November 1, 1920, the daughter of David and Cecil Barnes.  She came to the Piedmont to go to school at Burris Memorial Hospital (High Point Hospital) and graduated as a registered nurse.  She worked in Cabarrus County and then came to Thomasville Hospital to work.  She met Willie Dalton Welborn in Thomasville and they were wed on September 15, 1944.  They had a wonderful life together for 72 years before his passing on December 22, 2015.

Angelle was a woman of many talents: sewing, gardening, nursing, and cooking but her best 2 talents were listening and helping others.  She was a devoted Christian and a member of First Baptist Church.  She taught Sunday School to pre-schoolers and helped with VBS finishing by teaching her own Sunday School as she got older.  She volunteered at the Thomasville Hospital for many years.  She was on the Board of Directors of the Local Red Cross for years and worked many a blood drive.  She was an outstanding member of the Thomasville Woman’s Club and received their Life Membership Award.  She was a longtime member of the Bent Twig Garden Club and helped beautify our city by planting flowers at the Big Chair and making many wonderful friends.  She delivered Meals on Wheels until she was in her 80’s.  She assisted her husband, Willie, in serving the Fair Grove Lion’s Club.

She is survived by her children, John Welborn and wife Audrey and Estelle W. Puckett; grandchildren, Amy Garren (Steve), Jennifer Atwell (Chris), John Welborn (Janna), Brian Puckett (Kathryn), and Melissa Kisor (Chris); great-grandchildren, Maddie Rumbac (Jon), Jacob Garren, Caroline Atwell, Ansley Atwell, Kelsey Atwell, Luke Welborn (Cara), Spencer Welborn, Charlotte Welborn, Braxton Puckett (Madeline), Kobe Puckett, Kyler Puckett, Blake Puckett, Marshall Dodderer, Sierra Dodderer, Deacon Kisor, and Summer Kisor; great-great grandchildren, Marley and Reagan Puckett and Juniper Welborn; sister, Sue Stiff (George); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 18, 2021 at 3:00 PM at Fair Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Bynum Orr officiating.  Mrs. Welborn will remain at the J.C Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until taken to the church cemetery 30 minutes prior to the graveside service and Angelle will lie in state at the funeral home on Monday from 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM for members of the community to pay their respects.  The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the staff of Piedmont Crossing for their care to Angelle for her nine years there and to Christa, Charity, Patricia, Jenna, and Judy for their help, kindness, and love to our parents.  Memorials may be directed to The American Red Cross of High Point/Thomasville 1008 Hutton Ln.
