Barbara Jean (Hunt) Burton

Mrs. Barbara Jean Hunt Burton, 84, went home to be with the Lord Friday morning, August 15, 2025 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

Barbara was born November 18, 1940 daughter of the late Willie Hunt and Betty Cairriker Hunt of Davidson County. She was an employee of Kayby Mills of Thomasville for many years and enjoyed her time working for Fairgrove Elementary School as custodian and special needs substitute teacher. In addition to being a loving wife and mother, Barbara served as a faithful pastor’s wife for many years at Amazing Grace Freewill Baptist Church in Thomasville.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was greeted in heaven by her daughter, Karin Burton Thames; five siblings, Laurastina Hunt, Helen Gallimore, Lola Hoover, Maxine Kindley, and Jimmy Hunt.

Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Pastor C. Hillis Burton of the home; two children, Tara Burton Brewer and husband Joe of Thomasville, Pastor Tim Burton and wife Misty of Thomasville; a sister, Ruthanne Hall of Thomasville; eight grandchildren, Whitney Freeman (Nick), Laurin Clackum (George), Josh Loftin, Tyler McDowell, Trevor Burton, Grayson Burton, Brianna Marshall, and Abby Haddock (Derek); several great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The family will greet friends on Monday, August 18, 2025 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the J.C. Green and Sons funeral home in Thomasville. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at Amazing Grace Freewill Baptist Church in Thomasville with Pastor Tim Burton, Pastor Jeff Burton, and Pastor George Clackum officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park in Thomasville.
