Barbara Moore Atkinson

Barbara Moore Atkinson passed away on September 29, 2025, after a lengthy illness. She was 82.

Born in Danville, Virginia, on March 11, 1943, Barbara was the daughter of Philis Gary and Robert Ward Moore. She was educated in the Danville City Schools and graduated from George Washington High School in 1960, maintaining lifelong friendships with many of her classmates. She went on to attend Averett University and later earned her degree in Elementary Education from Longwood College in 1964.

Barbara devoted her career to teaching and touched the lives of many students throughout Virginia and North Carolina. She taught in Virginia Beach, Greensboro, Hoke County, and Lexington City Schools with dedication and care.

Barbara spent most of her life in the Lexington Country Club area, where she was blessed with a close-knit community of friends and neighbors. She was a longtime member of the Lexington Charity League and especially enjoyed participating in its theatrical productions, where she formed deep and lasting friendships.

She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, William Atkinson; daughters Leigh Atkinson and Laura Baker (Eddie); granddaughter Hannah Baker; grandsons Will Stulack and Charlie Stulack; and nephew David Barnes (Carol).
