Mr. Barney John Alarcon, 74, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at the Henry Etta & Bruce Hinkle Hospice House. He was born in Oakland, CA to John Frank Alarcon and Mary Juanita Sebastian Alarcon. He came to North Carolina at the young age of 6 and graduated from Thomasville Sr. High School. After graduation, he joined the US Army, having served in Germany during the Vietnam War. After the Army, he went to Barber School, having worked as a barber for 46 years and owned and operated The Hair Center in Greensboro for 15 years. He taught Bible classes for many years and has now met the Master he taught about. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death two aunts and one uncle.
On November 17, 1984, he married Shirley Ann Grubb, who survives of the home; also surviving are two sisters, Carol Arnett and husband James of Thomasville and Janice Jarrell and husband Roger of Durham; nephews, Andrew Arnett of Thomasville and Taylor Jarrell of Durham; niece, Elizabeth Seymour of Lexington; and aunt, Phyllis Sebastian of Thomasville. The family would like to express a sincere thank you to Shirley’s nephew, Carlton Smith and Shirley’s niece, Amy Huffman, for their loving care and support to her and Barney.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 23, 2020 at 1:00 PM at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with Rev. Pete Bumgarner and Rev. Wayne Shortt officiating. Interment with military rites provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard will follow in Walters Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home on Thursday, October 22, 2020 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.
