Mr. Bennie Lee Craven, 90 years of age, passed away on Tuesday, May 27,2025 at his home in Sumter, SC. He was born on October 27,1934 to the late James and Minnie Glascoe Craven in High Point, NC. He graduated from Hasty High School in 1953, and immediately joined the U.S. Marine Corp. He attained the rank of Sergeant, serving three years.
Bennie is survived by his wife of sixty-nine years, Sadie Shields Craven. He leaves one son, Andie Lee Craven, of Sumter, SC and three beloved grandchildren, Cloie Craven, Carys Craven, and Callahan Craven.
Bennie was preceded in death by his parents, one special daughter-in-law, Valarie Wright Craven; two brothers, Colin Craven and Stanton Craven; and five sisters, Treva Nifong, Altha Hampton, Bertie Everhart, Emaline Gordon, and Ruth Latham.
Bennie’s occupation was that of a tobacco farmer. He lived and farmed in Oak Ridge, NC for forty-six years, until 2007, when he and Sadie relocated to the Oswego Community in SC. Bennie continued farming until his retirement at the age of 78. He loved his wife, son, and grandchildren very much and will be missed.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 31,2025 at 3:00 PM at Spring Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Tim Whited officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 31,2025 from 12:30 PM – 2:00 PM at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home, 10301 N NC Highway 109, Winston-Salem and immediately following the graveside service in the church fellowship hall.
