Bertie Fulbright Benfield Obituary
Bertie Fulbright Benfield, 95, a resident of Bethlehem Avenue, died Thursday June 11, 2026 at Piedmont Crossing in Thomasville. She was born on October 24, 1930, a daughter of the late Craig and Mary Ethel Fulbright in Catawba County, NC. She grew up at Mills Home in Thomasville and retired from Pilot School Cafeteria in 1990. She was a member of Park Place Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir, taught Children Sunday School, and was the church treasurer for 32 years. She served on the finance committee for the Liberty Baptist Association for 30+ years, taught Sunday School at The Oaks in Thomasville, and was always interested in missions.
On November 3, 1947, she married her high school sweetheart, John Benfield, who preceded her in death on April 4, 2012. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Irene Martin; and four brothers, Gaither, Thomas, William “Bud”, and Roy Fulbright.
Surviving are her sons, Richard Benfield and wife Cathy and Johnny Benfield and wife Susie, all of Thomasville; grandsons, Jason Benfield and wife April and Christopher Benfield and wife Jessica; great-grandchildren, Carson, Sydney, Christopher, Jr., and William Benfield; nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Mary Fulbright.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 15, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Michael Ester officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 14, 2026 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina, P.O. Box 338, Thomasville, NC 27361.
