Bessie Louise (Wishon) Howell

Mrs. Bessie Louise Wishon Howell, 97, a resident of Winston-Salem, passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2021.

Bessie was born September 17, 1924 in Forsyth County, NC a daughter of the latte Odell A. Wishon and the late Addie Kiger Wishon and had made this area her home all of her life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Kathleen Wishon, Naomi Wishon and Vickey Wishon. She was a former employee of Western Electric and a faithful member of Christ Wesleyan Church. Bessie loved reading her Bible, was a caregiver to her sisters, enjoyed sewing and working on her genealogy. Bessie was married to David Batry Howell who also preceded her in death.

Surviving are her son, Stephen David Howell and wife Judy of Mason, Ohio; her daughter, Martha H. Shropshire and husband Joseph of King, NC; grandchildren, Travis Howell and wife Jennifer of Lebanon, Ohio, David Shropshire and wife Maria of King, NC, Dawn Elizabeth Swaim and husband Kris of King, NC; great grandchildren, Faith, Lilly, Conner, Kennedy, Sidney, Eliana; her brother, Jerry Wishon and wife Virgie of Winston-Salem, NC.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, September 27, 2021 at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Winston-Salem (Wallburg Community) with Rev. Mark Norris officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. There will not be a formal visitation, however Mrs. Howell will lie in repose from 2 until 5 pm Sunday at the funeral home for those of the community who wish to pay their respects. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Bessie’s memory may be made to Christ Wesleyan Church, 2390 Union Cross Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107.
