Bessie “Jenny” Virginia Walker, 90, a long-term resident of Thomasville, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2026 at the Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington. She was born on January 15, 1936 in Thomasville to her parents, the late Pauline Fuller Phillips Walker and Dr. Nathaniel Walker. Jenny worked at Becks Bootery for several years and was a member of Fair Grove Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Charles Walker of Thomasville; and two sisters, Pauline Cox of Thomasville and Elizabeth Wilson of Winston-Salem.
Surviving is her daughter, Virginia Bess and husband Andrew of Sarasota, FL; two grandchildren, Will Bess and wife Danielle, and Kevin Bess; great-granddaughter, Ellie Bess; two siblings, Josephine Walker Swaim of Thomasville and Nathaniel Walker and wife Carolyn of Thomasville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2026 at 2:00 PM at the JC Green & Sons Chapel in Thomasville with Rev. Jane Baity officiating. The family will greet friends prior to the service from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Fair Grove Church cemetery in Thomasville.
