Bettie Lou Reid Poindexter

Bettie Lou Reid Poindexter, 86, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center.  She was born on November 16, 1939 in Forsyth County to the late Wade Michael and Frances Hutchins Reid. Bettie was a member of Friedland Moravian Church and was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company.  She was a great homemaker, cook, and baker.  She loved traveling, sewing, and quilting.  She will be lovingly remembered as her late husband Tommy described her perfectly: “Betty is the sweetest person I have ever met. She is so understanding and forgiving. She is the greatest person I know of, and the best wife and mother in the world… She is the best friend I have ever had.” She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Wilson Poindexter, Jr., and brother, Charles F. Reid.

Bettie is survived by her five children, Leigh Ann Poindexter, Thomas Mark Poindexter, Van Wilson Poindexter, John Steven Poindexter, and Keith Wade Poindexter; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at Friedland Moravian Church, 2750 Friedland Church Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27107 with Pastor John G. Rights officiating.  Interment will follow the service in the Friedland Graveyard.  The family will receive friends following the interment.
