On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, our dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother sister and aunt Betty Wilkes Robbins left this world peacefully at the age of 97. The family is comforted in knowing that she was a woman of deep faith. Betty was the oldest child of James “Dock” F Wilkes and Mattie Hicks Wilkes born in Forsyth County, NC into a happy family. After graduating from R J Reynolds High School, Betty married the late Horace “Buddy” L. Robbins.
In her early life she worked at Dun and Bradstreet and McClean Trucking Company. Later she helped her husband run the family business, Robbins Used Auto Parts and Buddy Robbins Sandblasting.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Horace “Buddy” L. Robbins, her sister Peggy Wilkes Bullins, and her Aunts Elsie B Hicks and Stella Lawerance.
She is survived by her son Freddie Robbins, daughter-in-law Becky Robbins, son Eddie Ray Robbins, daughter-in-law Shirley Robbins, daughter Betsy Robbins Parrish, son-in law Kenneth Parrish, daughter Patsy Robbins Miller and son-in-law Mike Miller, grandsons Michael Robbins, Kevin Parrish and wife Megan, Wesley Miller and wife Caroline, great grandsons Gavin Robbins, Beau, Raleigh, and Rhett Parrish and great-granddaughter Adeline Miller several nieces and nephews.
Betty was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, constantly providing a warm, loving, and Spirit-led home to her family. Betty was a life-long Moravian, originally a member of Fries Moravian Church, then joining Friedland Moravian Church after her marriage.
She was a Sunday School Teacher for many years, a member of Broad Bay Home Makers Club, a member of the Mary Fogleman Candle League, very active for many years in the Friedland Girl Scout Program and Friedland Women’s Fellowship. Betty enjoyed crafts of all kinds and spent numerous hours making cards to send to those with sickness or to mark a special occasion. In her later years she enjoyed walking especially with the Sedge Garden Recreation Center Walkers.
Those that knew Betty loved her.
Services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, April 14, 2025, at Friedland Moravian Church.
The family will receive visitors immediately after the service.
