Billy Mitchell Edwards, 91, of Thomasville, N.C., passed away peacefully at his home, Wednesday, December 24, 2025, surrounded by his family. Bill was born on November 27, 1934, to the late Mitchell Mock and Ruby Byerly Edwards. He was a 1953 graduate of Hasty High School, and served in the United States Army from 1957-1959 as a Sergeant in Company B, Second Battalion, Group Six, Infantry, stationed in Berlin, Germany.
On April 22, 1955, he married the love of his life and dancing partner, Emily “Lou” Stone Edwards.
He worked at Lowder Supply Company as garden center manager for 13 years. In the fall of 1975, Bill and his wife Lou opened Edwards Mower Sales and Service on National Highway in Thomasville. They were in business for 23 years before selling the business to retire and spend more time in the mountains.
He was an active member of Johnsontown United Methodist Church as long as he was able. He was a Sunday School teacher of the Young Adult Class for many years, a member of the choir, as well as, a member of the Johnsontown Quartet. He loved his church and wanted to be involved in any way he could.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Harold Mock Edwards and Steven James Edwards.
Surviving is his wife of 70 years, Lou Edwards; daughter, Sharon Payne (John); son, Chuck Edwards (Michelle); grandchildren, Emily Stevenson (Brian), Wes Payne (Megan), Trent Edwards, and Blaire Edwards; and six great-grandchildren, Mary, Wesley, Samuel, and Lily Payne, and Graham and Caroline Stevenson.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025 at 2:00 PM at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with Rev. Sidney Lanier and Rev. Jenna Grogan officiating. Interment will follow in the Johnsontown United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home for visitation on Sunday, December 28, 2025 from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM.
