Bobby Ray Hammond Sr.

Mr. Bobby Ray Hammond Sr., 76, passed away on July 29, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Rowan County on December 05, 1945, a son to the late Allie Hammond and Charlotte Hawkins Hammond. Bobby fought a hard fight until his last moment here on earth. He took pride in every aspect of his life including his building abilities and his family. He was an expert craftsman and never traveled without his tools available to him at all times. Bobby was the patriarch of a large loving family whom he adored with all his heart and soul and never failed to put God first. He was devoted in his faith in God and that was always his first love. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years, Ruenell Thomason Hammond in July of 2020; son-in-law, Shannon Causey; granddaughter, Heather Causey and five siblings.

Surviving are his three children, Loretta Causey, Bobby Hammond, Jr. and wife Louise, J.W. Hammond and wife Katie, all of Lexington; four grandchildren, Michael Hammond and wife Kathleen, April Causey, Grayson Hammond, Toby Hammond; great grandchildren, Brooke Hammond, Sawyer Hammond and Bryson Hammond; special niece, Amy Hammond; special friend, Charles Hatley; extended family and numerous friends. 

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at 1:00 PM at Forest Hill Memorial Park in Lexington with Rev. Stephen Ashby officiating. There will be no formal visitation. The family will greet friends at their home on Longview in Lexington. Public viewing will be on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until 6:00 PM at the J.C. Green and Sons funeral home in Thomasville. Memorials may be directed to Cancer Services of Davidson County or Hospice of Davidson County.
