Bobby “Rusty” Russell Goins Jr, 62, a resident of Thomasville, passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2026 at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born on August 3, 1963 in Denton to his parents, Amy Edwards Goins and Bobby Goins Sr. He went into the army national guard straight out of high school where he was later honorably discharged. He was a member of the Denton Masonic Lodge and a member of the drum and bugle core for the shrine club. He worked many years as a civil engineer for Wesco Corporation. He enjoyed coaching softball when his daughters were younger - becoming a father figure to all the girls he coached. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially deep-sea fishing. He was a man that anyone could count on and would do anything for anyone. He was a jack of all trades, being able to fix anything or find out how if he didn’t know. He loved his wife and girls dearly, but his grandchildren were his world. He was always on the sidelines cheering them on and would eventually become the whole team’s poppy before the end of the season. Rusty had a long history of serving the Thomasville community. He volunteered for several years with the Thomasville Rescue Squad, recently serving as Chief.
Surviving is his wife of almost 43 years, Renee Reece Goins of the home; two daughters, Holly Byerly and Emily Goins Williams (Kane); six grandchildren, Zoe Byerly, Jaxson Goins, Adalynn Goins Preset, Mason Goins, Lakelynn Williams, and Everlee Williams; his father, Bobby Goins, Sr; his sister, Teresa Coffey (Clayton); and several extended family members and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Thomasville Rescue Squad Base at 212 Pine Street in Thomasville. The family will greet friends immediately following the service. Memorials may be sent to Thomasville Rescue Squad: 212 Pine Street, Thomasville, NC 27360 in memory of Rusty Goins.
