Brenda Leonard Obituary

Mrs. Brenda Westmoreland Leonard, 81, a resident of Thomasville, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. She suffered from complications related to Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born on August 16, 1944 in NewPort News, Virginia to her parents, the late Hoyt D. Westmoreland and Inez Floyd Westmoreland.

Brenda grew up in Thomasville, graduating from Thomasville High School in 1962. She attended Wingate College, High Point College and fondly recalled the time she lived in Atlanta while completing a Dental Technology certification.

On October 1, 1967 she married Larry E. Leonard, with whom she enjoyed 44 years of marriage.

She worked while Larry attended law school, then focused on raising her family until returning to the workplace at First Bank in Thomasville as the receptionist where she welcomed everyone with her smile for 20 years and spoke often about the camaraderie she enjoyed with the “girls” at work.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother, making sure every holiday and everyone’s birthday was well celebrated.

Brenda was a longtime member of Heidelberg United Church of Christ where she enjoyed many years of fellowship with friends and family.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Larry E. Leonard.

Surviving is her daughter, Caroline Leonard Beacham and her husband Tripp of Charlotte; a son, Mark Leonard of Thomasville; six grandchildren, Cody Leonard, Dillon Leonard, Kailey Leonard, Linsay Leonard, Carl Beacham, and Evelyn Beacham; and great-granddaughters, Gabriella and Adrianna; her sister, Martha Ann Floyd and her husband Dr. James Floyd of Thomasville, her nephew Daniel Floyd and his wife Amber Floyd of Mississippi.
