Obituary

Mr. Bruce (Chip) Bray, III, 70, a resident of The Shannon Gray Rehabilitation &Recovery Center, passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at Shannon Gray. Bruce was born in High Point on May 27, 1955, the son of Bruce Bray Jr. and Ruby Lawson Bray. He attended Oakview Elementary School, Northeast Junior High School, and graduated from T. Wingate Andrews High School in May of 1972. He attended worship at the previous Northwood United Methodist Church, Oakview United Methodist Church and Conrad Memorial Church. 

Bruce was employed as an Electrician Assistant and Warehouse Manager at his family’s business, High Point Electric, Inc., formally Bray Electric, Inc., as well as a Counter Assistant at Electric Supply, Inc. in High Point.  He enjoyed playing golf, especially at the old Twin Oaks Golf Course in Jamestown. His favorite golfer was Craig Stadler. He was an avid UNC basketball fan, attending many games throughout the years in Chapel Hill and the Greensboro Coliseum and he was a Dale Earnhart racing fan.  He also enjoyed volunteering for the High Point Jaycees at the Oak Hollow Boat Drag Races and volunteering as a member of the Lion’s Club. Bruce often volunteered during inclement winter weather transporting nursing staff to and from the local hospital for their shifts. He served the Oakview Lions Club as President from 1977 – 1978 and was awarded Lion of the Year that same year.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bruce Bray, Jr, his mother, Ruby Maxine Lawson Bray, Maternal Grandparents, Raymond and Lula Mae Lawson, Fraternal Grandparents Bruce Bray Sr. and Lala Pilson Bray, Uncle Wayne Thomas Bray, Aunt Paige Bray, Aunt Betty Barbry and nephew, Kenneth Riley Caulfield.

Left to cherish his memory is his sister, Rayma Bray Caulfield (Brian) and his brother, Bryan Keith Bray (Celeste), his nieces, Brooks and Reagan Bray, and Briana Caulfield (James)Ernsting as well as great niece, Kellyn Caulfield and great nephew, Gunnar Ernsting.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023 at 12:00 pm Noon at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with Pastor Chris Clontz officiating.  The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service at the funeral home.  A private graveside inurnment will be held at Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery in High Point.  The family would like to offer a special thanks to the staff at the Shannon Gray Crystal Coast Hall and to Tiffany Muse, DNP, AGNP for the excellent, compassionate care provided to Bruce.
