Captain Ronnie Buren Metcalf Obituary

Captain Ronnie Buren Metcalf, 53, of Denton went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, March 29, 2024 at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center after paying the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Ronnie was born January 25, 1971 in Davidson County to the late Terry Buren Metcalf and Janette Gallimore Metcalf. Ronnie was a faithful member of Hillside Park Baptist Church in Thomasville, where he served in many capacities, including but not limited to, serving as a deacon, choir member, security team, brotherhood, vacation bible school teacher, sound-room operator and so much more. Ronnie had a true servant’s heart. His calling to be a fireman, fit him the best. He served the Badin Lake Fire Department, along with the Healing Springs Fire Department earlier in his career, City of Denton for over ten years, and the City of Lexington for the past nineteen years; retirement was so close, nearing March 2025. Ronnie was promoted to Captain in 2018 and was currently serving as Captain over Engine 3. When not serving the community as a fireman he was working at Lexington City Schools in the Maintenance Department. Through the years, Ronnie was a fire instructor at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and Davidson County Community College for many years. He always had a smile on his face, his personality would light up a room and the crowd within. His heart of servantship not only was shown to the community through his heroic actions every day but also to his church family and complete strangers. He always exhibited selflessness. On February 22,1992, he married the love of his life Carol Bell; every moment together was cherished by both. Their love for each other was like no other. They enjoyed woodworking, crafting, vacations, singing and especially camping. Ronnie was a faithful and loving father to his children, but when the grandbabies came along, he really was known as the "Best Pawpaw in the world". They were the light of his life. Family, church and his fire family were so important to him. But his love for the Lord radiated in all he did in life. Ronnie will leave a legacy in this community, county, state, and country for the sacrifice he made. "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends" John 15:13.

Left to cherish his memory and love are his wife, Carol Bell Metcalf of the home; son, Joshua Metcalf of the home; daughter, Holly Metcalf Worley and husband Anthony of Denton; three grandchildren, Addilyn Worley, Savannah Worley, and Waylen Worley. He also leaves behind, brother, Steve Metcalf and wife Sharon: sister, Lynnette Shaw and husband Talton; nephew, Christopher; nieces, Jenna and husband Andrew, Hanna, and Meghan; extended family, Ricky Queen, Randy Queen, and Destanie Queen Strickland and husband Jordan and family. Along with numerous other family members, friends, and his firemen community.
