Carleen Elizabeth (Underwood) Branson

Carleen Underwood Branson, 73, of Johnsontown Road, Thomasville, passed away Friday, September 16, 2022 at her son’s home in Thomasville. 

Carleen was born July 11, 1949 in Davidson County, NC to the late David and Ruth Wilborne Underwood.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John Wayne Branson; several sisters and brothers; a grandchild, Alexander Joseph McGee.

Carleen worked in textile manufacturing and retired from Thomasville City Schools. She married John Wayne Branson April 6, 1976.  Carleen was a faithful member of Gospelway Baptist Church in High Point for 38 years, where she enjoyed arranging Christmas plays and singing gospel music with the children in the nursery and Sunday School classes. She also enjoyed gardening and crafts in her spare time.                                                        

She is survived by three sons, Peter Underwood and wife Linda of Thomasville, Timothy Scott Royal and wife Mary of High Point, Mark McGee and wife Ashley of Wallburg; four grandchildren, Nicholas Underwood, Andrew Royal, Autumn McGee, Matthew McGee; one brother, David Underwood and wife Jane of High Point.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Gospelway Baptist Church, 1923 South Elm Street, High Point, NC with Rev. Danny McMahan, Rev. Josh Sellers and Rev. Junior Hutchins officiating.  The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will follow at Floyd Baptist Church Cemetery 2145 Floyd Baptist Church Road, Lexington, NC 27292.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Gospelway Baptist Church, 1923 South Elm Street, High Point, NC 27260.
