Mr. Carlton Avon Summers, 77, a resident of Thomasville, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2020 in Hospice Home of High Point. Mr. Summers was born in Davidson County on August 15, 1942 to the late Milton Cheshire and Alta Kennedy Summers. He worked for the High Point Fire Department and went on to retire from Quality Hardware where he worked as a salesman. Mr. Summers was a veteran of the United States Army. He proudly served as Military Police in Vietnam. He was a longtime member of Prospect United Methodist Church, the Hasty Lions Club, and the Rod and Reel Club. He was a family man who could fix anything and enjoyed gardening. In addition to his parents, Mr. Summers is preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Joan Clackler Summers.
Surviving are daughters, Stephanie S. Strickland (Kevin W.) and Stacy S. Hunt, all of Thomasville; grandchildren, William Sean Wright, Jr., Summer Fayth Leitch (Devin), Derek Hunt, Hayden Strickland, and Bailey Strickland; and a great-grandchild, Christian (C.J.) Strickland.
A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at 11:00 AM in the JC Green and Sons Chapel in Thomasville. Interment will follow the service in Prospect United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mr. Summers will lie in repose at the funeral home on the afternoon of Tuesday, August 4th, for any who would like to come pay respects. There will not be a formal visitation.
