Carol Carter Obituary

The family is saddened to announce the passing of Carol Louise Fisher Carter, 73, of Thomasville, North Carolina, yet, rejoice that she is now in God’s embrace, totally healed, healthy and walking in the presence of her Lord and Savior.

Carol was born on January 31, 1952 in Thomasville, North Carolina to Sarah Pauline Koon Fisher and Clinton Rowe Fisher, Sr.  Carol was the first born of twin girls, a fact she never let her sister, Karen, forget.

During the early years of her childhood, she was enrolled in pre-school classes, consisting of reading, phonics and mathematics by Mrs. Jennings Withers to get a head start on first graders.  Mrs. Withers also taught her rules of etiquette and manners that would be needed by young girls as they evolved into young ladies.

Prior to entering first grade, her parents requested that she and her twin sister, Karen were separated, into different classes.  It was important to them that each of their daughters develop her own identity and become independent of each other.

After graduating from Thomasville Senior High School in 1970, she attended UNC-Greensboro from 1970-1974, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics Education.  Graduating in May, she married John F. Carter, Jr. on June 23, 1974.

Carol began her professional career as a Home Economics teacher with the Davidson County School System.  While teaching school, she completed a Masters of Science Degree in Home Economics Education at UNC-Greensboro in 1978.  Teaching school until 1985, she then moved into the position of Director of Child Nutrition for the Davidson County Schools, a position she held until her retirement in 2008.  After retirement, Carol volunteered her time at the Davidson Medical Ministries.

Carol enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, listening to country music and of course, cooking.  She received her most enjoyment traveling with her husband, following their son across many states, as he competed in many golf tournaments, as an amateur and then as a professional golfer.  Her greatest love was spending time with her son and her three grandchildren.

Carol was a person of great strength, courage and determination as she conquered Breast Cancer.  She never relinquished these qualities over the next six years as she fought dementia.  She succumbed to this debilitating disease after two years in Hospice of Davidson County.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Clinton Rowe and Sarah Pauline Fisher and her oldest brother, Clinton R. Fisher, Jr.

She is survived by her husband of fifty-one years, John F. Carter, Jr. of Thomasville, North Carolina; her son, John F. Carter, III (Erin) of Sapphire, North Carolina; her three grandchildren, Bennett William Carter, Caroline Marie Carter and Shepherd Rowe Carter of Sapphire, North Carolina; her twin sister, Karen Fisher Preddy of High Point, North Carolina; and her brother, David Monroe Fisher, Sr. (Maxine) of Jamestown, North Carolina.  She is also survived by a niece, three nephews and numerous great nieces and great nephews.

In keeping with Carol’s wishes, there will be no public service.  The family does appreciate your love and support during this time.  Donations may be made to Hospice of Davidson County, Breast Cancer and Dementia Research.
