Catherine Benfield Gilchrist

Mrs. Catherine Benfield Gilchrist, 71, a resident of Thomasville, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, March 23, 2025 at her home. She was born on July 1, 1953 in Davidson County to her parents, the late Lula Hedrick Benfield and Clarence Benfield. Catherine worked several years at Hughes Supply in Thomasville. From 1997 to 2013, she helped alongside her husband with missionary work in Mexico. Catherine enjoyed spending time with her family and her three dogs, Brandi, Peanut, and Tinker. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Charles Lee Benfield.

Surviving is her husband of 37 years, Ruben Gilchrist of the home; one son, Robert “Jason” Byerly and wife Melissa of Lexington; her sister-in-law, Katy Benfield; six grandchildren, Amber Calk (Marcus), Westley Byerly (Carolyn), Dalton Byerly (Lauren), Jacob Byerly (Halee), Hailey Byerly, and Ethan Byerly; and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial graveside service will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025 at 12:00 PM with Pastor Jimmy Causey officiating at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Thomasville. The family will greet friends following the graveside service in the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292 in memory of Catherine.
