Catherine “Cathy” Shannon McAdams, 77, passed away on December 27, 2025, at her lake house, the place she cherished most and where she found her greatest joy with family.
Born on July 19, 1948, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Cathy was the daughter of William and Catherine Shannon. As one of fourteen siblings, Cathy grew up in a large family. She would leave Pennsylvania for a fresh start in the Carolinas with the love of her life, Larry McAdams, Sr. Her journey would shape her generous spirit, deep loyalty, and lifelong love of togetherness.
With Larry by her side, her life consisted of hard work, determination, and adventure. She completed high school and continued her education before dedicating 28 years to Thomasville Furniture. She was also a proud and successful business owner, helping operate M & M Welding & Fabrication alongside her family. Her work ethic and pride in her craft were matched only by her devotion to the people she loved.
Those who know Cathy will forever remember her vibrant personality. She adored anything with hummingbirds, the color red, and EVERYTHING that sparkled. Gifted with a green thumb, she found joy in nurturing her plants and caring for animals, especially horses. Cathy had one of the biggest, most giving hearts imaginable; she welcomed everyone into her family, offering kindness, comfort, and love without hesitation.
Above all else, Cathy was devoted to her family. She was a loving wife, a mother of four, a grandmother of nine, and a great‑grandmother of nine. Her legacy lives on through each of them.
Cathy is preceded in death by her great grandson, Baby Jon. Cathy is survived by her husband, Larry G. McAdams, Sr., her children and their spouses — Donna Roark and her husband Tim, Larry McAdams, Jr. and his wife Michelle, Helen Davis and her husband Alan, and Jesse McAdams and his wife Frankie; and her grandchildren — Jonathan Stubbs (Renee Johnson), Ashley Bowman (Jerry), Larry McAdams III (Chris Asbury), Chris McAdams (Courtney), Katy Davis-Fryar (Jared), Kelly Davis-Barefoot (Jacob), Adam Davis (Sarah Rompalo), Jesse McAdams, Jr., Skylar McAdams (Trace Williamson) and Hannah Whitaker; and her great grandchildren, Joshua Baxley, Summer and Natalie Bowman, Jaxon and Bailey Stubbs, Caiden, Corbin, and Claire McAdams. She is also remembered with much love by her many siblings and extended family.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, 122 West Main Street, Thomasville, NC 27360 with Rev. Bynum Orr officiating. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, from 6:00–8:00 PM at the funeral home. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
In honor of Cathy’s giving heart, memorial donations may be made to a children’s charity of your choice.
Cathy will be deeply missed and has left her imprint on countless lives. As we say our last goodbyes, our hearts are breaking, but her love and light will carry on through all who knew her.
