Charlie Alfred Potter, a proud Marine, devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, loyal brother, and cherished uncle, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy defined by kindness, humility, and unwavering devotion to his family. His gentle spirit and steady presence shaped the lives of all who knew him.

Charlie was a member of Temple Heights Baptist Church, where his faith was a steady and meaningful part of his life. Pastor Kenneth Brown will be officiating his funeral service, honoring Charlie’s life, character, and the love he carried for his family.

Born to Joseph Lee Manuel Potter and Augustine Meadows Potter (Parsons), both now deceased, Charlie grew up in a home grounded in hard work, loyalty, and deep family connection. These values guided him throughout his life and became the foundation of the man his family admired.

Charlie shared a long and loving marriage with his wife, Donna Taylor Potter. Their partnership was built on mutual respect, quiet humor, and a deep, enduring love. Charlie also held deep affection and respect for Donna’s parents, McDonald and Helen Taylor, both now deceased, and siblings Linda Ratley and the late Brenda Small, who welcomed him into their family with love, warmth and kindness.

He was the proud father of three children: Cathy Massy and her husband Bill, Teresa Miller, and his late son, Charlie “Chuck” Potter, whose memory remained close to Charlie’s heart.

He was blessed with grandchildren, and although he was not an active part of their lives, he loved them deeply in his own quiet way.

Charlie is survived by his brother Robert “Bobby” Potter and wife Margie and their children, with whom he shared a lifetime of stories, laughter, and brotherly bond. He was preceded in death by his brother James Potter.

He was deeply loved by his niece and nephews: April DeVinney, Scott Floyd, Curtis Floyd, David Ratley, Kenneth Small, and Donnie Small. He was the kind of uncle who showed up—with a helping hand, a listening ear, or a quiet smile that made you feel understood.

Charlie spent his working years doing what he loved most—working with dough and making bread. His career took him across numerous states, where he built friendships, earned respect, and took pride in perfecting his craft. Whether in a small bakery or a large production facility, Charlie brought the same dedication and quiet joy to his work. Baking wasn’t just a job to him; it was a calling, and he poured his heart into every loaf.

Charlie was also known for his humor—he had a joke for everyone, and his lighthearted spirit could brighten even the hardest days. His laughter, quick wit, and ability to make others smile will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.

In his final years, Charlie was cared for by numerous doctors, nurses, and medical teams, whose compassion and dedication brought comfort to both him and his family. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to each of them for the kindness and dignity they provided. They would also like to thank the team at Piedmont Crossing for the care they gave Charlie in his final days.  Their support was so greatly appreciated.

Throughout his life, Charlie was known for his gentle nature, steady wisdom, and ability to make others feel at ease. He offered guidance without judgment, humor without harshness, and love without condition. His presence was a source of comfort and strength to his family.

Charlie’s legacy lives on in the relationships he cherished and the countless small acts of kindness that defined his character. His memory will continue to echo in the stories shared and the quiet moments when his absence is felt most deeply.

He will be profoundly missed, but the love he gave will endure.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at 11:00AM at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with Rev. Kenneth Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
