Mr. Claude Raymond Widener, Sr, 87, of Thomasville, passed away on Friday, April 2, 2021 at his home. He was born on May 31, 1933 in Meadowview, Virginia to the late William Earl Widener and Edith Woodard Widener. He worked over 40 years as a painter, owning and operating his own business. He was a charter member of PHA, Piedmont Handgunners Association. He was an avid hunter and golfer, loved telling jokes and enjoyed reading. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Edith Bishop Widener; two sisters, Dot Ward and Hazel Tate; and two brothers, Robert Widener and Sam Widener.
Surviving are his three daughters, Paula Peters (Tony) of Thomasville, Ellen Callahan (Greg) of Lexington, and Rita Manning of Lexington; one son, Claude “Raymond” Widener, Jr. (Lynn) of Greensboro; eight grandchildren, Ginger Taylor (Craig), Josh Widener, Brandon Widener (Brandy), Jonathan Mitchell (Neta), Jody Strickland, Stephanie Manning, Joanna Hollifield (Phillip), and Tommy Manning (Krista); three step-grandchildren, Tony Peters, Anthony Peters, and Ethan Brown; eleven great-grandchildren; half-brother, Edward Widener of Hillsborough; half-sister, Betty Widener of Florida; step-sister, Deloris Bacon (Leland) of Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the JC Green & Sons Chapel in Thomasville with Pastor Jeff Perdue officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Thomasville.
