Clay Phillips Berrier Obituary

Mr. Clay Phillips Berrier, age 97, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at his home.  He was born on June 1, 1928 in Davidson County to the late Harvey Phillip and Elzie Pitts Berrier.  Clay was a life-long member of Canaan United Methodist Church where he had served as a Sunday School teacher, on the cemetery committee, and as a member of the Methodist Men.  He was a farmer and harvesting season was his favorite time of year.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Clay Berrier who served and was lost in the Vietnam War in May of 1968.  He was also preceded in death by two sisters, and six brothers.

Left to cherish his memory and presence is his wife of 79 years, Odessa McCoin Berrier of the home; daughter, Bonnie Lynn Berrier of Kernersville; sister, Violet Nichols of Winston-Salem; numerous friends and caregivers; and dedicated staff at Trellis Supportive Care.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 13, 2025 at Canaan United Methodist Church with Pastor Jay Bowers and Pastor Danny Berrier officiating. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends immediately following the committal service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Canaan UMC,1760 Shady Grove Church Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107 or to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
