Clay McConnell Poole, Jr. Obituary

Clay McConnell Poole, Jr., 86, of Trinity passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at High Point Medical Center surrounded by his family.


Clay was born April 5, 1940, son of the late Clay McConnell Poole, Sr. and Frankie Marie Sanders Poole of Guilford County. He served his country in the United States Navy and worked for many years in the furniture industry, retiring as a plant manager. Clay loved golfing, fishing, and was an avid Duke fan. Most of all, he enjoyed supporting his children and grandchildren at many sporting events through the years.


In addition to his parents, Clay was preceded in death by a brother, Stephen Poole; a great-grandson, Arkin James Conley.


Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 63 years, Betty Hall Poole of the home; his faithful children, Kimberly Conley (Chuck Hooven), Karen Allred (Tommy) all of Trinity, Daryl Poole (Crystal) of Thomasville; a brother, Michael Poole; seven grandchildren, Steven Conley (Jen), Brian Allred (Cierra), Briana Williams (Adam), Brooke Hayes (Chad), Zachary Conley (Logan), Chase Poole (Autumn), and Hope Poole; five great-grandchildren, Daxton, Spencer Grace, Nolan, Kinley, and Avery; sister-in-law, Julia Poole; a niece, Stephanie Elko (Nate).


A memorial service will be held Friday, August 7, 2026 at 2:00 PM at the J.C. Green and Sons Chapel in Thomasville with Pastor Michael Mabe officiating. Committal of ashes will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park in Thomasville. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 PM.
