Cornelia Ruth Rumsey Smith, 84, a resident of Davidson County went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Lexington Health Care. She was born in Guilford County April 23, 1938, a daughter to the late Ruford Rumsey and Grace Leigh Leonard Rumsey.

As a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, if asked what her denomination was, her answer was “Born Again”. Cornelia loved having the opportunity to speak to people about her Saviour. In the past, she attended Community Baptist Church and more recently Bethany Baptist Church, until she got to the point she could no longer attend. Cornelia was a devoted mother and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Donald Smith; daughter, Donna Gail Hughes; a brother, Rev. Johnnie Rumsey; a granddaughter, Rebecca Lynn Smith; three sons-in-law, David Clyde Hughes, Jonathan Paul Lambeth, Lanny “Bo” Morgan.

Surviving are her two sons, James Edward Smith and wife Kathy of Stokesdale, Donald Robert Smith of Thomasville; four daughters, Julia Marie Morgan, Karen Patricia Lambeth, Debra Ann Jones and husband Shane, Virginia Rose Smith all of Thomasville; nine grandchildren, Stephanie Annette Leonard (Tim), Jessica Laurel League (Eric) both of Stokesdale, Jenny Marie Arnette (Justin), Jeremy Lee DeHart (Nina) both of Thomasville, Bradley Keith Brewer (Kelly) of Iowa, Ashley Brewer Hazelwood, Eric Joseph Ashburn (Lilly), Kristen Elizabeth Hollifield (Cody), Daniel James Smith all of Thomasville; eleven great-grandchildren, Noah Leonard, Rebecca Leonard, Laurel League, Lila League, Caitlyn Arnette, Jordan Arnette, Adelaide Brewer, Vincent Hollifield, Vayden Hollifield, Kiara Ashburn, Kayden Ashburn.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday January 26, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Bethany Baptist Church, 574 Tower Road, Thomasville, with Pastor Tom Fields and Pastor Junior Seawell officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park in Thomasville, NC. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 to 2:00 PM at the church. J. C.
