David G. Conant Sr., 74 of Thomasville, passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday March 5, 2025.
He was born on August 2, 1950 to the late Pauline (McCarthy) Conant and Hewitt Conant. He was predeceased by his sister Cathy Henry (Mooresville NC), sister in-laws C.C.(Wheeler) Berry (London England), Patricia (Wheeler) Dutton (Lexington NC), Barbara (Pembroke) Wheeler (Bloomfield NY) and brother-in-law Martin Wheeler (Bloomfield NY).
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kathleen (Katie) Wheeler Conant, son David G. Conant Jr. and his son’s wife Marie, (Lockport NY), his sisters Judy Goodman (Mooresville NC), Paula Louise Voorhees (Fishers NY), Brenda Every (Bloomfield NY), brothers Gregory Conant (FL), Tim Conant (Canandiagua NY), brother-in-law R. Edward Wheeler and his wife Kathleen Sak Wheeler (Farmington NY), many nieces and nephews and special friends.
He graduated from Bloomfield Central High School (Bloomfield, NY) and served his country in the US Army from 1970-1972. He worked at Chase Pitken Home Centers in Rochester NY for 25 years before moving to Thomasville, NC. He retired from Vecello-Grogan as a heavy equipment operator (Beckley VA) in 2009.
His biggest hobby was watching stock-car racing. His father (Hewett) raced back in the day in Watertown NY, David raced himself in upstate NY back in the 1970’s and his son David Jr. currently also races in upstate NY. He was a devoted Dale Earnhart Sr. fan, but his favorite driver of all time was his son David Jr. David was also a member of the American legion for 53 continuous years.
David was a devoted son, husband, father, and friend, and will be missed.
A memorial service will be held at Memorial United Methodist Church in Thomasville on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Danny Leonard officiating. Also in West Bloomfield NY, a date to be determined.
