Mrs. Deborah Susan Calloway Durham, 67, passed away on Friday, September 17, 2021 at her home. She was born on March 7, 1954 in Danville, VA to George Murial “Dutch” Calloway and Peggy Ann Jennings Calloway. She was a homemaker and volunteered at local nursing homes, where she became a department head. After, moving to Thomasville for her husband’s pastoral assignment, she started working for Hospice of the Piedmont as assistant to the director of nursing. She was an active member of Mt. Pleasant Church, where she served and shared the unfailing love of Jesus with her favorite missions of the church, “The Blessing Baskets” and “Night to Shine” and her teaching in The Journey Class.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew McLain.
On August 19, 1972, she married Donnie Benton Durham, who survives of the home; also surviving are her daughters, Amy McDevitt and husband Tommy of Thomasville, Amanda Clontz and husband Chris of Thomasville, and Beth McLain and husband Chris of Midland, NC; her father, George Murial “Dutch” Calloway of Danville, VA; sisters, Cynthia Calloway of Danville, VA and Muriel Huyser and husband Paul of Garner, NC; five grandchildren, Bryce and Peyton McDevitt, Cooper and Reagan Clontz, and Grace McLain; and many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins.
A graveside committal will be held on Monday, September 20, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Mt. Pleasant Church Cemetery with Pastor Chris Clontz officiating. Deborah will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until the hour of the graveside committal. A celebration of life service will follow the graveside committal at 2:00 PM in the Mt. Pleasant Church FLC with Pastor Chris Clontz officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the celebration of life service in the FLC Banquet Room. Deborah will lie in state at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville on Sunday from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM for members of the community to pay their respects. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Mt. Pleasant Church, General Fund or FLC Fund, 6516 Old Greensboro Rd.
