Dewey Clyde Carden Jr., 79, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, May 3, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Dewey was born on March 15, 1947, to Dewey Clyde Carden and Betty Irene Carden.
Dewey was preceded in death by his loving wife, Pamela Kay Carden, who was the love of his life. “Pammy” was his whole world, and he carried that love with him always. Now, they are reunited once more. He was also preceded in death by his son, Michael Justin Carden, a beloved son who meant so much to him and whose memory will forever be cherished. Dewey was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey Clyde Carden and Betty Irene Carden, and his sister, Linda Lohr.
He is survived by his son, Jeffrey Carden, daughter-in-law, Rebecca Carden; his granddaughters, Ashley Sattenfield (Jeffrey) and Shaylee Carden (Jesse); his great-grandsons, Landon Tilley and Liam Sattenfield; his brothers, Craig Carden (Donna), John Carden (Susan), Delray Carden (Karen), and Tim Carden; and his beloved neighbors, Greg and Michelle Wood, and their children, Jacie and Dylan.
To many, Dewey was known simply as “Grandaddy.” He was not just Ashley and Shaylee’s Grandaddy, but everyone’s Grandaddy. If you asked him his name, he would say, “Dewey—but you can just call me Grandaddy.” He was a loving father to his sons, Jeffrey and Michael, and a man who believed family was everything.
If you knew Dewey, you knew he would give you the shirt off his back. He found his greatest happiness in the simple moments—spending time with family, sharing stories, and making those around him laugh. His presence brought comfort, his words brought wisdom, and his love was steady and unwavering. He had a way of making everyone feel valued and at ease, and his kindness left a lasting impression on all who met him.
Dewey proudly served as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force for four years before dedicating more than four decades of service to Piedmont Ford Trucking Company.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his memory will live on forever in the hearts of his family and friends.
