Donald Ray Johnson, 87, of Walburg-High Point Road, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, with his son and daughter by his side. He was born on April 19, 1935 in Davidson County to the late Ernest and Bessie Craven Johnson. Donald was a Christian and longtime member of Spring Hill UMC, where he sang in the choir in his younger years. He was devoted to his family and loved his wife with all his heart. Donald and Joan were married for 61 years, and he continued to love her with the same devotion after her passing in 2017. The family takes comfort in knowing that they are reunited again and with Jesus in Paradise.
Donald was self-employed most of his life and worked with Joan by his side in several family businesses. His favorite vocation was as a carpenter and Donald took great pride in building many beautiful homes in the area. He also loved fishing, gardening, bluegrass music and playing the guitar.
In addition to his wife and parents, Donald was preceded in death by all of his siblings. Surviving is his son, Ricky Lee Johnson of Thomasville; daughter, Lisa J. Laney and husband Al, of Davidson, NC; brother and sister in-law Johnny and Gladys Long; sister-in-law, Shelby Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home Chapel, 10301 N. NC Hwy 109, Winston-Salem, NC 27107. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or memorial gifts may be directed to the National Kidney Foundation of NC, 5950 Fairview Rd, Ste 550, Charlotte, NC 28210 or a charity of donor’s choice.
