Doris Bassett Obituary

Doris S. Bassett, 80, of Lexington passed away Monday, March 18, 2024 at Novant Forsyth Medical Center.

Doris was born July 12, 1943, in Forsyth County, to the late William W. Southern II and Doris Richardson Southern.  She was a homemaker who loved to cook, watch the Philadelphia Phillies play Baseball, follow both UNC and Duke Basketball and watch NASCAR races.  Doris also loved to fish and complete word search puzzles, but her biggest love was taking care of her husband of 56 years, the late Harold Wesley Bassett.  Doris was a longtime member of Lexwin Baptist Church.  She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Surviving is her son, Ronnie W. Bassett (Lisa) of Winston-Salem; her daughter, Rena K. Burns of Lewisville; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; her sister, Sylvia Sink of Lexington.

In addition to her husband and parents, Doris was preceded in death by her daughter, Ronda Gray; a grandson, John Curtis; two brothers, Joe Southern and Jerry Church.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Lexwin Baptist Church with Pastor Erick Goff officiating.  Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Winston-Salem, NC.

The family will receive friends 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Lexwin Baptist Church, 100 Wainwright St., Winston-Salem, NC 27107.
