Douglas “Doug” James Ellis, 47, of Lexington, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at Forsyth Medical Center.
Doug was born December 6, 1973 to Bro. James Louis Ellis and Pamela Carr Ellis in Cumberland County. He loved to fish, golf, and had a God given ear for music. In high school, Doug was first chair saxophone in the State; however, he had a passion and gift of playing multiple instruments. He traveled with the Fitch Family for several years, singing, playing and being the emergency mechanic. After coming off the road, Doug served the Lord in the local church. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Thomasville, serving as Adult and Youth Choir Director. Doug will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ivan Carr and Betty South Iverson; paternal grandparents, Avery and Georgia Ellis; father-in-law, Bro. Donn Fitch.
Surviving is his wife of 25 years, Melanie Fitch Ellis of the home; his mother and father of Tyro; two sons, Ethan and Micah Ellis of the home; mother-in-law, Judy Fitch of the home; aunts and uncles, Cheryl Wiatrolik and husband Daniel, Bro. Danny Carr and wife Hazel, Karen Miller Haverstick, Kathy Harmon and husband Steve, Glenda Scragg and husband Greg; extended family and friends.
A homegoing service will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Bethany Baptist Church, 574 Tower Road, Thomasville, NC 27360, with Pastor Tom Fields officiating. Burial will follow at Charity Baptist Church, 1912 N NC Hwy 150, Lexington, NC 27295. The family will greet friends from 12:00 to 1:30 PM at the church.
