Elman Eugene "Gene" Craven Obituary

Mr. Elman Eugene “Gene” Craven, 86, of High Point, North Carolina passed away peacefully at his home on August 27th, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was born on May 31st in 1939 in High Point to Chester and Daisy Craven and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1957 where his classmates lovingly nicknamed him “Shrimp.” He completed studies in design from the Allen School of Commercial Art in Lexington, North Carolina.

Gene was a dedicated graphic design artist known for his high quality and excellent service to every client. He founded Craven Sign Services in 1965. Gene used a brush, a quill and one-shot paint on a handheld pallet to hand letter signs throughout the Triad. He was self-taught on how to use computers as his industry was transitioning through technology.

He was always prepared for a Ministry opportunity; his Bible was on his desk or readily available for any chance to share the gospel. He was a proud member of his community and Abbott's Creek Missionary Baptist Church. He often gave his time and volunteered his talent to help when needed, a couple of examples are, he hand-lettered the Ledford High School concession stand, the basketball court and supported many other athletic and band events. He coached many baseball and softball teams in Wallburg.

He was passionate about golf, he was always “Go Ready,” his clubs were in the vehicle ready to go play anytime.

Gene was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Daisy Craven, father Chester Craven, brothers; Lee, CC, Jack, Harvey, Emory, Charlie, sisters; Peggy, Elaine and Francis. He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 60 years (October 16th) Sharyn Bodenheimer Craven, his children Anthony(Tony) Craven(Carrie) and Christy Craven Willson, his grandchildren: Tucker Craven, Dalton Craven, Caroline Craven, Cooper Craven, Bella Willson and Wade Willson; his beloved brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
