Evelyn Beckom Stevenson

Mrs. Evelyn Beckom Stevenson, 98, of Thomasville, passed away on Monday, May 31, 2021 at Lexington Health Care. She was born on December 5, 1922 in Wilmington, NC to the late Wilbur Edgar Barnhill, Sr. and Ruby Creech Barnhill. Evelyn worked many years in the furniture industry working at Tomlinson Furniture. Later in her life, she worked at Hardee’s restaurant in Thomasville. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her family and was a faithful (and oldest) member of Love of God Baptist Church in Thomasville. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, A.L. “Pop” Stevenson; two daughters, Louise Kinley and Mary Ellen Beckom; two sons, Charles and Ronnie Beckom; and several brothers and sisters.

Surviving are her daughter, Jean Taylor of Thomasville; two sons, James Beckom and Larry Beckom (Shirley), both of Thomasville; two sisters, Elsie Brown and Helen Barnhill, both of Leland, NC; one brother, Michael Barnhill of Lexington; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and great-great-great-grandchildren.  

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Love of God Baptist Church in Thomasville with Pastor Michael Orman, Pastor Sammy Allison, Jr., and Pastor Dale Kinley officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the church. Burial will follow the service at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Thomasville.
