Garnie "G.R." Rivers Hawks

Mr. Garnie “G.R.” Rivers Hawks, Jr., 87, a resident of Winston-Salem, passed away Sunday, September 5, 2021.

G.R. was born August 16, 1934 in Forsyth County, a son of the late Garnie R. Hawks and the late Hazel Meredith Hawks and had made this area his home all of his life. Before retirement, he was a machinist for the Harvin Company (now Penn Engineering). G.R. enjoyed working in his yard and was a lifetime and dedicated member of New Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Gilda Suits. On April 27, 1963 he married Margaret Ruth Eddinger who survives of the home.

Also surviving is his son, Keith D. Hawks of Clemmons; his grandchildren, Savannah Hawks and Courtney Hawks of Germanton; his sister, Hilda Sink of Kernersville and three nieces.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, September 12, 2021 in the New Mt. Vernon UMC Cemetery with Pastor Craig M. Toth officiating. Masks are requested. There will not be a formal visitation, however, Mr. Hawks will lie in repose from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM Saturday at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home, 10301 N. NC Highway 109, Winston-Salem, NC 27107, for those of the community who would like to pay their respects. There will be a time of greeting the Hawks family following the graveside service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in G.R.’s memory to New Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, 6408 Friendship – Ledford Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107.
