Gary Wayne Goins

Mr. Gary Wayne Goins, 72, of Thomasville, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center surrounded by his many loved ones.  He was born on November 8, 1952 in Davidson County, Thomasville, NC to Jacob Donald Goins, Sr. and Martha Ann Thomas Goins.  He was a 1971 graduate of Thomasville High School, where he excelled in football, baseball, and wrestling.  After graduation, he received a full football scholarship at Elon College.  He was active coaching in the community for 40+ years at East Davidson High School, Fair Grove Elementary, and High Point Christian Academy, announced baseball games at East Davidson High School, and was a passionate athlete his entire life.  He was a member of Carolina Memorial Baptist Church, where he served for over 30 years in numerous roles, attended Mt. Pleasant Church, a member of Gideons International, and conducted a coffee ministry at the Thomasville Flea Market.  He retired after 30 years of service with Zonex Systems.

In addition to his father, Jacob Donald Goins, Sr., he was preceded in death by his sister, Sandy.

On July 28, 1973, he married Dawn Leonard, who survives of the home; also surviving are his daughters, Kerri Smith and husband Matt, Jennifer “Jennie” Casselman and husband Charlie, and Catharine “Katie” Mishoe and husband Nick; his son, Nicholas “Nick” Goins and wife Teresa; his mother, Martha Thomas Goins; his brothers, Don Goins, Jr., Van Goins, and Alan Flynt; his sisters, Vicki Kennedy, Sybil White, Della Nance, and Sherry Davenport; his eight grandchildren, Blaine Mishoe, Bryce Mishoe and wife Kaitlyn, Ethan Mishoe, Jake Goins, Chloe Goins, Zadie Goins, Everly Casselman, and Wyatt Casselman; and many extended family and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Mt. Pleasant Church in the FLC with Pastor Chris Clontz and Dr. Andy Royals officiating.  The family will greet friends and family immediately following the service.  The family requests that you wear your Carolina Blue to the service.
