Mr. George Washington Cox, 83, of Trinity, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2026 at Atrium Health High Point Medical Center.  He was born on September 18, 1942 in Guilford County, NC to George Cox and Rosa Ann Beck Cox.  He retired after 15+ years for Murrow’s Transfer and was a member of Cloverdale Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Leonard Cox; his sisters, Jo Rickard and Yvonne “Punk” Turner.

On September 2, 1972, he married Peggy Ann Phillips, who survives of the home; also surviving are his children, Allen Cox (Lovely) and Carolyn Cox (Jerry Oldham); his step-children, Tony Potts (Debbie), Rick Potts (Melissa), David Potts (Angie), Cathy Lackey (Daniel), Joyce Potts (Billy Ratliff), and Cynthia Christley (Allen); his brothers, Barry Cox and Gary Cox (Carolyn); his sisters, Linda Gibson, Phyllis Workman (Dallas), Cheryl Berry (Steve), and Joyce Tucker; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Cloverdale Baptist Church with Rev. Floyd Edwards officiating.  Entombment will follow at Floral Garden Memorial Park Mausoleum.  The family will receive friends for visitation one hour prior to the service at the church from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM.  Memorials may be directed to Cloverdale Baptist Church, 1701 Ogden Ct.
