On Thursday, June 3, 2021, Gerry Van Troutman, 75, passed away. Gerry was born on April 3, 1946, in Winston-Salem, NC. He is preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Edith Troutman and his siblings, R.T., Billy Gray, Betty, Bobby, Catherine, and Terry. He is survived by his wife Dora, daughters Kristin (Thorne) and Courtney (Whitley), his grandchildren Noah (Thorne), Elizabeth (Whitley), and Emma (Whitley), and his brother, Jerry Troutman, of Winston-Salem.

After high school, Gerry enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the Vietnam War. While in the Navy, he learned his future career as a mechanical draftsman. Serving the Wallburg-Ledford community was a large portion of Gerry’s life. He was a volunteer fireman for Wallburg and served in various leadership roles at Wallburg Baptist Church. Gerry was also an avid sports fan and was often seen working in the concession stand at Wallburg and Ledford High School. He also used his time to umpire softball games for the Davidson County Recreation Department, as well as the North Carolina High School Athletic Association. On two separate occasions, Gerry was recognized by the North Carolina Athletic Association when he was invited to umpire the State Softball Championships in Raleigh, NC. His love, influence, and service will be felt far and wide for generations to come.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, June 7, 2021 at Wallburg Baptist Church with Pastor Brandon Wolfe officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery and the family will greet friends and family following the committal service in the church fellowship hall.
