Hazel Louise Maness Pierce, 77, of Lexington, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2023 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Hazel was born October 15, 1945, in Moore County, to the late Eli Maness and Lula Jane Black Maness.

Hazel attended Park Place Baptist Church and later Welcome First Baptist Church. She loved reading books and traveling to such places as Hawaii and Arizona. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Paul David Whitener, Sr.; her only son, Paul David Whitener, Jr; several brothers and sisters.

Surviving is a brother, Oren Maness, and wife, Tatayna of Gastonia; a granddaughter, Cassie Whitener Moore, of Linwood; three great-grandchildren, Jachob Moore, Olivia Moore and Lucas Moore; Daughter-In-Law, Lovora Lynn Garris Whitener of Lexington, NC.

A funeral service will be held Friday, January 27, 2023 at the J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Jake Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, January 26, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to, Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina, 204 Idol St. Thomasville, NC 27360.
