Hazel Mary Ann (Roberts) Sexton

Hazel Sexton, 96, of Winston-Salem, went peacefully to be with the Lord, on June 5, 2025.  She died at home in her own bed, as was her desire.  Hazel was born on October 14, 1928, in Matoaka, WV, the fifth child of Major Dock and Donna Haynes Roberts.  Hazel was the last living sibling to her brothers, Elbert, Creed, Marvin, Hansel, Larry, JD and sisters, Verlis Melvin and Rema Earls.

Hazel married William Desmond Clark in 1945 and had two children, William Desmond (Deborah) Clark, Jr. and Particia Clark (William – D) Lester.  Des was killed in the coal mine in 1948.  In 1952, she married Philip Morgan Duer and had one child, Linda Duer (Paul) Rephann, (marriage dissolved in 1962).  She married Wayne Sexton in 1968 and had one child, Melissa Sexton (Bryan) Lester.  With her marriage to Wayne came three children, Gail Sexton (John) Allen, Carol Sexton (Eddie) Smith and Roger (D) (Debbie) Sexton.  As a blended family of seven children, we became the Brady Bunch.  Hazel and Wayne were married for 56 years.  They had sixteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren and twelve great-great grandchildren. 

The family will greet friends on Sunday evening, June 15th, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at JC Green Funeral Home in Wallburg, NC.  A funeral service will be held Monday, June 16, 2025 at 2:00 PM at JC Green Funeral Home Chapel in Wallburg, NC.  Burial will follow the service at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Winston-Salem, NC.  Memorials may be given to the charity of your choice.  Online condolences may be left at www.jcgreenandsons.com.
