Hilda Gallimore Smith

Hilda Gallimore Smith, 89, of Thomasville, passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025 at Asheboro Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center.  She was born on June 15, 1936 in Davidson County, NC to the late Rosie (Sis) Gallimore.

She graduated from Thomasville High School and Ashmore Business College.  She had several different office jobs before opening Smith’s Grocery and Service along with her husband Van.  Together they operated the store for 12 years.  She also worked at Tasty Bakery in Thomasville.  She enjoyed talking with her friends and customers at both places.  She was a member of Park Place Baptist Church and the Senior’s Sunday School Class.  On June 29, 1957, Hilda married Van Smith, who passed away in February 2004, after 46 years of marriage.

Surviving is her daughter, Sherry Ridge and husband Keith; sisters-in-law, Martha Stephenson and Linda Luther along with several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with Rev. Dave Howard officiating.  Burial will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.  The family will greet friends immediately after the service at the cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of Randolph County, 416 Vision Dr. Asheboro, NC  27203.  The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Asheboro Rehabilitation & Healthcare and a special caregiver, Samantha, for all the love and care they showed during her time there.
