Mr. Howard Lewis Bumgarner, 69, a life-long resident of Thomasville, NC went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 13, 2021. He was born on July 4, 1951 to Lewis and Otelia Bumgarner who preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Shelda Sherrill Bumgarner; a son, David Bumgarner; a daughter, Anna Edwards; a grandson, Braxton Kepley; and two brothers, Donald and Pete Bumgarner. Howard was a loving husband, father, grandpa, and a great brother.
Howard served eight years in the United States Air Force. He served one year in the Vietnam War. Before retiring, Howard worked several different jobs. He was an area Manager for Old Dominion Freight Lines, the Vice-President of operations for MGM Transport, General Manager of Shelba D. Johnson Trucking, and the founder and President of GGS Transport.
Howard received a masters degree in biblical studies from STC Bible College. He ministered locally and went on several mission trips to Nicaragua. He was a faithful member of Thomasville World Outreach Center. He also blessed many other churches with his music ministry.
Howard was known by many as a singer and entertainer. He was a regular at Shatley Springs for many years. He recorded several CD’s and sang at various events. He also wrote two books, but never published them.
Howard loved life, playing golf, and entertaining people. He will be missed immensely.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 16, 2021 at 12:00 PM at the JC Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville with Pat Withers and Pete Bumgarner officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:30 to 11:45AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Thomasville.
