Ida Mae Johnson Simmons Obituary

Mrs. Ida Mae Johnson Simmons, 93, a resident of Brookstone Retirement Center and formerly of Emma Street in Thomasville, passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Brookstone.  She was born on November 10, 1927 in Horry County, SC to Quince Johnson and Arie Phipps Johnson.  She was last employed with Highland Cotton Mill and Wagner’s Grocery.  She enjoyed quilting, embroidery, cooking, fishing, history, astronomy, and jigsaw puzzles.  Her greatest joy besides her family was planting and watching her garden grow.  Her garden was well known throughout the community as the best-looking garden around.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lacey Simmons on September 3, 1981; her children, Albert, Tim, Pat, Tony, Tommy, Sherry, and Cherry; her sisters, Eloise and Mary; her brothers, Clyde and Dub Johnson; and her grandchildren, Tammy, Kimberly, and Kristin.

Surviving are her children, Linda Dennis of Burgaw, NC, Fae Flannery of Thomasville, Jimmy Simmons of Thomasville, Glinda Mae Simmons of Thomasville; step-daughter, Virginia Simmons Hardee of Thomasville; sister, Genevieve Johnson Hodge of Loris, SC; grandchildren, Jerry, Sharon, Pamela, Brian, Teresa, Donna Jean, Carol, Justin, Angela, Delores, David, Tony, Wayne, Jason, Wanda, Stephanie, Michael Beal, Joanna, Jammie, William, Michael Simmons, Edward, Cathy, Mindy, Alvin, Ashley, Billy, and Steven; and numerous great and great-great grandchildren, with 6 sets of twins included.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with Rev. Bynum Orr officiating.  Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home from 1:00 – 2:00 PM.
