Irma Elizabeth Sechriest McLain

Mrs. Irma Elizabeth Sechriest McLain, 96, of Thomasville, passed away on Monday, November 16, 2020 at the Henry Etta & Bruce Hinkle Hospice House.  She was born on February 28, 1924 in Davidson County, NC to Willie Efird Sechriest and Verdie Maye Beck Sechriest.  She was a homemaker and a member of Heidelberg United Church of Christ.  She enjoyed singing in the church choir, square dancing, and reading books by NC authors.  She and her late husband, Clyde traveled all over the world, including Europe, the Far East, and Africa, but she always said, “the best place in the world is Thomasville.”

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Dana McLain on April 28, 2019; two brothers, Rev. Lloyd Sechriest and Dale Sechriest; and one sister, Carolyn Carpenter.

Surviving are one daughter, Brenda McLain of Shelby, NC; two sons, Clyde D. McLain, Jr. and wife Lynn of Mocksville, NC and Michael McLain and wife Robin of Thomasville; three grandchildren, Jennifer McLain of Birmingham, AL, Dana McLain Moore and husband Brian of Rural Hall, NC and Michael McLain, Jr. of Thomasville; two great-grandchildren, Caroline and Noah Moore; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at 12:00 PM at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Steve Monroe officiating.  Mrs. McLain will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until the hour of the graveside service and she will lie in state at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 from 12:00 – 6:00 PM for members of the community to pay their respects.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Heidelberg United Church of Christ, 118 Salem St. Thomasville, NC 27360.  Online condolences may be sent to www.jcgreenandsons.com.
