Jacqueline (Jackie) Payne Shackelford

Jacqueline (“Jackie”) Payne Shackelford, 98, died Friday January 2, 2026.  She was born on August 14, 1927 in Davidson County, NC to Thomas Asia Payne and Annie Shields Payne, both of whom preceded her in death. She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Joseph Charles Shackelford.  Surviving is her loving daughter, Sharon Shackelford Stewart and husband Dr. William (Bill) Stewart of High Point; grandsons, Chris Stewart and Brooks Stewart, both of High Point.  Jackie was also preceded in death by her brothers Donald Payne, Sr, Richard Payne, and Thomas Asia (Tom)(T.A.) Payne, Jr and sister Lucille Payne Fitzgerald. 

Jackie was a loving sister, wife, mother, and grandmother, and enjoyed spending time with her family.  She graduated from the Lottie Barber Smith Guilford Business School of High Point and worked for many years in sales and as an executive secretary at Wood-Armfield Furniture Company and Armfield Furniture Company.  Jackie’s life was one of joy, family, and purpose, and she lived life to the fullest.  She loved animals, nature, spending time with her family and shopping with her daughter.  Sharon and her mother were inseparable and Sharon was her devoted caregiver since 2008.  Jackie had a big smile for everyone that lighted up the room – she will be deeply missed and her spirit will live with us always.  She was beautiful beyond words and kind beyond measure.  She loved deeply and in the end that was all that mattered – the love she gave so freely and the love she received in return. 

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday January 7, 2026 at 2:00 PM in The Chapel at Wesley Memorial Methodist Church.  Interment will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Wednesday prior to the service in the Asbury Room from 1:00 – 1:45 PM. Online condolences and the latest information on services can be found at jcgreenandsons.com
