James Everhart Obituary

Mr. James Edwin Everhart, 86, of Thomasville went home to be with his Lord, Friday morning, April 24, 2026 at Hinkle Hospice House surrounded by his family.

James was born November 14, 1939, the son of the late Clyde Marshall Everhart and Ocie Marie Sullivan Everhart of Davidson County. His mother passed and he was raised by his grandmother, Annie Sullivan all of his childhood. From a young age, James understood the value of hard work as he mowed lawns in his neighborhood of Hog Eye to help make ends meet. He attended Thomasville City Schools, and served his country in the United States Army, enlisting at the age of 17. He was stationed in South Carolina, Kentucky, Texas, and Germany, and enjoyed his time serving his country. On March 24, 1961, he married Prema Carol Byerly the love of his life. James was the owner and operator of Lake Oil Company for many years.

James served others by showing kindness to all he would meet. Many friends reaped the benefits of Jame’s delivery of apples, peaches, candy, and home-grown vegetables over the years. He loved to “ride the roads” going to the beach, mountains or anywhere he could think up. James also loved to fish and enjoyed time with his family. James was a faithful member of Emanuel Reformed Church in Thomasville, for many years, where he served as Deacon, Elder, Sunday School Secretary, Grounds Committees, and President of Consistory during his years at the church. He loved the Lord and lived by three words he claimed as his favorite: Faithful, Humility, and Grace.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Annie Sullivan; siblings, Mildred Everhart Foust, Mary Elizabeth Everhart Brown, Robert C. Everhart, Clyde Marshall Everhart, Jr; brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, Ronald and Barbara Byerly, Rev. Chester Byerly.

Surviving are his faithful wife of 65 years, Prema Byerly Everhart of the home; special nephews and niece, Brent Byerly, Frank Byerly, and Misty McGlamery; sister-in-law, Gennie Lou Byerly; numerous other nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Emanuel Reformed Church in Thomasville, with Rev. Ricky Payne officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends prior from 12:30 to 1:30 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Emanuel Reformed Church General Fund.
