James Leonard Obituary

Mr. James Richard Leonard, 77, of Welborn Road in Trinity passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Hospice Home of High Point.

 

Richard was born on November 2, 1942 to the late Jay Leonard and Nellie Coltrane Leonard in Guilford County. He was a faithful member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Thomasville, serving as secretary treasurer of the Methodist Men and superintendent of the church. Richard was also former President of the Fair Grove Lions Club. His love of horses and riding led to a State Championship in 1969. He will be remembered for his love of hunting, fishing, golf and being everyone’s handy man. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his sister, Lucille Roach; a brother, Jay Leroy Leonard; fiancé of his daughter, Gary Duncan.

 

Surviving are his loving wife of 57 years, Marie Kennedy Leonard of the home; a son, Tim Leonard and wife Teresa of Lexington; a daughter, Dana Eaves of Trinity; a sister, Peggy Hawks and husband Frank of Archdale; four grandchildren, Tony Leonard, Trevor Leonard and wife Heather, Tara Hunt and husband Kolby, Tyler Eaves; two great grandchildren, Bella Leonard and Addi Leonard; many extended family members and friends.

 

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, February, 22, 2020 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Thomasville with Rev. Carter Ferguson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be directed the Pleasant Hill UMC Building Fund, to the care of Nancy Kearns, 2136 Kennedy Farm Road North, Thomasville, NC 27360.
