James Arthur Lowery Obituary

Mr. James Arthur Lowery, 82, of Thomasville, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2020.  He was born on May 28, 1938 in Halifax County, VA to Sherman Lowery and Virginia Pool Lowery.  He graduated from Halifax High School, where he was a math-wiz.  He was a US Army Corp of Engineers veteran and worked the majority of his life as a land surveyor.  He loved his farm animals, including his llamas, horses, cows, and dogs and had a great sense of humor, loved to agitate and play practical jokes on his family. He most recently attended New Life Baptist Church and previously attended Oak Hill Memorial Baptist and Carolina Memorial Baptist.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Jo Ann Harrison Lowery on March 2, 2005, whom he married on February 13, 1965; his brother, Thurston “Cotton” Lowery; and his sister, Doris “Betty” Grubb.

Surviving are his twin daughters, Penny Green and husband Neil of Trinity and Peggy Holland and husband Darryl of Lexington; his son, Perry Lowery and wife Brandy of Lexington; his grandchildren, who were the light of his life, James Green, Brooke Green, Jo Ann Holland, and Dean Holland; brother, Harold Robert Lowery and wife Pat of Sunbury, NC; sister-in-law, Dianne Lowery; canine companion, Hannah; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at 2:00 PM at New Life Baptist Church with Pastor Michael Mabe officiating.  Interment with full military rites provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.  Mr. Lowery will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service and the family will receive friends on Friday, August 14, 2020 from 6:30 – 8:30 PM at the funeral home and at other times at the home of his daughter, Peggy, 569 Louya Rd. Lexington, NC. The family would like to express a sincere thank you to Veronica Davis and several other caregivers for their loving care.
