James "Larry" Hedrick Obituary

James “Larry” Hedrick (Soap), 81 of Lexington passed away peacefully Saturday September 12, 2020 at Grayson Creek Assisted Living. Larry was born April 20, 1939 to the late Robert Lee Hedrick and Esther Cornelia Swing Hedrick in Davidson County. Larry was a member of Hedricks Grove United Church of Christ. He served in the United States Army in 1958. Larry worked many years as a Lab Tech at Burlington Industries. He was a active member of the Lions Club before his health started declining. Larry enjoyed life to the fullest; he loved fishing, pitching horseshoes, going to flea markets and being outside. He was one of the most humble, grateful and sweetest men on this earth. His love for children was exhibited in many ways, from coaching little league sport teams, babysitting, and even playing Santa Claus. Larry was a loving father, uncle and friend, he will be greatly missed.  Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Jean Black Hedrick on November 30, 2013; his daughter, Jeannine Williamson on December 5, 2016; one brother, Gerald Hedrick; one sister, Jackie Miller.

 

Surviving is his son, Michael Hedrick of Lexington; two brothers, Boyd Hedrick and Bill Hedrick, both of Lexington; one sister, Phylis Trogdon of Fairhope, Alabama; special niece, Julie Hedrick of Lexington; his great nieces and nephews, Elizabeth Lanning, Jonathan Lanning (Jasmine), Jacob Lanning, George Wilson, Jr. and Judy Wilson. He also leaves behind other beloved nieces and nephews.

 

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Hedricks Grove United Church of Christ Cemetery with Rev. Bynum Orr officiating. Larry will lie in state at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home on Tuesday from 8:00 AM-6:00PM.   Online condolence may be sent to the family at www.jcgreenandsons.com.
